Catholic Bishops Urge Tinubu to Tackle Insecurity and Poverty

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) called on President Bola Tinubu's Federal Government and state governments to take urgent action against insecurity, poverty, and inadequate infrastructure, which are exacerbating hardships for Nigerians. This demand was made in a communiqué issued after their Second Plenary Meeting for 2026, held from September 10 to 18 at the Our Lady and St. Kizito Pastoral Centre in Oke-Gada, Ede, Osun State.

The communiqué, signed by CBCN President Archbishop Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso and Secretary Bishop Peter Olukayode Odetoyinbo, identified persistent issues such as violence, kidnapping, and bad governance. The bishops acknowledged the government's initiative to decentralize the police system but stressed that any changes should prioritize the common good.

They urged stronger measures against banditry and called for improved security forces and intelligence gathering. Additionally, they expressed concern over economic hardships and called for policies to create jobs and support local businesses.
