Cerebral Palsy: Parents Lament Stigmatization in Kwara State

Parents of children living with cerebral palsy in Kwara State expressed their frustration over stigmatization and neglect during an event marking the 2025 Cerebral Palsy Day in Ilorin. They highlighted the challenges faced by their children, including rejection in private schools and public places like salons and restaurants.

The parents called for the government to take full responsibility for the physiotherapy and treatment of their children, as the costs are often prohibitive. Commissioner Mariam Imam emphasized the need for understanding, respect, and equal opportunities for individuals with cerebral palsy, acknowledging their strength and resilience.

The event aimed to raise awareness about the difficulties faced by cerebral palsy victims and advocate for better support and inclusion.
