N37m and Cars Awarded at Sokoto National Derby Races

The 12th National Derby Races held in Sokoto concluded with winners receiving N37 million and six brand new cars. This event, organized by the Nigerian Derby Horse Race Association, commemorated the third anniversary of Governor Ahmadu Aliyu Sokoto's administration.

The races featured five prestigious competitions, including the Sultan's Cup and the Governor's Cup, and drew participants from Nigeria and neighboring countries such as Niger, Chad, Cameroon, and Burkina Faso. Notable attendees included Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Deputy Governor Engr. Idris Muhammad Gobir, and various dignitaries.

The event showcased over 500 participants and emphasized the importance of horse racing as a traditional sport in Nigeria, with deep roots in Sokoto. Governor Sokoto pledged to continue upgrading the racecourse to meet international standards, reinforcing Sokoto's status as a hub for equestrian tourism in West Africa.

The derby was celebrated as a platform for fostering national unity and boosting socio-economic prosperity.
