NPFL Champions to Receive ₦1 Billion Prize Money

Shehu Dikko, the chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), announced that the champions of the 2026/27 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will receive a minimum prize money of ₦1 billion. The runner-up will earn ₦500 million, while the third-place team will receive ₦300 million, subject to confirmation by the league authorities.

This new prize structure is part of a broader initiative to strengthen Nigerian football and improve the welfare of players and coaches. Dikko expressed gratitude to Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Ibrahim Gusau and General Secretary Dr.

Moham Sanusi for their engagement in discussions aimed at the growth and development of Nigerian football. The meeting also reviewed the state of the national teams, particularly the Super Eagles, and discussed the appointment of Eric Chell as the head coach of Nigeria's U-23 national team.

Additionally, the NSC and NFF agreed on frameworks to enhance player welfare and support for the Super Falcons ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
