Lagos Launches Grand Horse Race to Boost Tourism

The Lagos state government has unveiled plans for the inaugural Grand Horse Race, set to take place from September 11 to 13, 2026, at the National Stadium in Surulere. The event, founded by Femi Fashoro, aims to position Lagos as a leading destination for horse racing, sports, and cultural tourism in Africa.

It is expected to attract between 20,000 and 30,000 spectators. Fashoro stated that the event will combine horse racing with music, fashion, art, and culture, creating a world-class entertainment experience.

He disclosed that 50 horses will be available for rent to participants who cannot afford to own horses, with an expectation of featuring 100 horses in total. Bopo Oyekan, Ismaila, and Toheeb Dosumu from the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture reaffirmed the government's support for this initiative, emphasizing its potential to boost the local economy and engage young people in tourism.
