Injury Sidelines Striker Salim Fago Lawal for Unity Cup

Salim Fago Lawal, a Czech-based striker, has been ruled out of the upcoming Unity Cup due to an injury that will keep him sidelined until the end of the 2025-2026 season. This setback means that Nigerian national team coach Eric Chel will not be able to include Lawal in the squad for the Unity Cup or the friendly matches against Poland and Portugal.

Lawal has had a limited role in the national team, having made only four appearances, with his competitive debut occurring against Uganda. Prior to his injury, he had made nine appearances for FC Viktoria Plzeň, scoring twice.

The injury occurred during a league fixture against Bohemian, which also caused him to miss international fixtures in March against Iran and Jordan. This situation highlights the challenges faced by the national team in assessing new players of Nigerian descent.
