Celebrating Chido Onumah at 60: A Media Pioneer

Chido Onumah, a notable Nigerian journalist and civic leader, recently turned 60. He is recognized for his calm and gentle approach, contrasting with the aggressive tone often found in journalism.

Onumah co-founded Ikenga Media, which launched in March 2022, focusing on cultural awareness and ethical journalism in the Southeast region of Nigeria. He has a rich history in media, having worked across three continents, and has been involved in various initiatives to enhance media literacy and promote accountability.

His activism began during his time at the University of Calabar, where he was deeply engaged in pro-democracy movements against military rule, particularly during the struggle following the annulled June 12, 1993 elections. Onumah's commitment to journalism and civic engagement has earned him a respected place in Nigeria's media landscape, where he continues to mentor young journalists and advocate for ethical reporting.
