Chika Idu's "Pure Water" Exhibition Explores Migration Themes

Chika Idu's solo exhibition titled "Pure Water" is currently on display at Arami, a fine-dining space in Lekki, Lagos. The exhibition, presented by SMO Contemporary Art, features 35 works and opened to the public on September 5, running until November 30.
It explores the intricate relationship between people, water, and the environment, delving into the histories of slavery, migration, and racism, while also addressing the ongoing human quest for freedom. A press preview was held on August 31, which included a guided tour and a screening of "From Shore to Studio," a documentary about Idu’s creative process.
This exhibition is noted as Idu's largest solo show to date and marks the first time he is exhibiting drawings. Key works include "Convergence (Diptych) I & II" and "Osondi Owendi," which reflect on themes of leisure and labor.
Idu's works also engage with environmental issues, particularly the pollution caused by discarded plastic sachets of drinking water in Nigeria.
