Chile Launches Digital Work Permit Verification System

Chile’s National Immigration Service has introduced a free digital Work Authorisation Certificate, known as the Habilitación Laboral Certificate, to assist foreign nationals and employers in verifying work authorization. This certificate is accessible through SERMIG’s online immigration platform and includes a QR code for digital verification.

The initiative aims to expedite work authorization checks and minimize administrative burdens for both foreign workers and employers. While the digital certificate provides confirmation of a foreign national’s work status, SERMIG has clarified that it does not replace the need for a thorough assessment of a worker’s immigration and work status.

Employers are still required to review relevant immigration documents, including approvals, permits, entry records, and residence activation requirements. The digital certificate is intended as an additional verification tool rather than a substitute for comprehensive assessments, thus ensuring that all applicable requirements are met.
