Adichie Accuses Lagos Hospital of Cover-Up in Son's Death

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie publicly accused Euracar Multi Specialist Hospital in Lagos of orchestrating a cover-up related to the death of her 21-month-old son, Nkanu Nnamdi Adichie, who died on January 6, 2026. In a letter dated April 16, 2026, Adichie alleged that Dr.

Tosin Majekodunmi, the medical director, admitted that the anaesthesiologist, Dr. Titu Ogundar, did not follow standard care protocols.

Adichie claimed that Ogundar administered propofol to Nkanu, who was conscious and interacting prior to the procedure. She stated that the death certificate inaccurately listed the cause of death as bacterial fungal meningitis.

Adichie alleged that Euracar's management attempted to silence her and warned her against pursuing legal action. The Lagos State Attorney General, Lawal Pedro San, filed preliminary objections against Euracar's application to dismiss the inquest.

The matter has been adjourned to October 8, 2026. Following the incident, Dr.

Ogundar and Dr. Majekodunmi were suspended pending disciplinary proceedings.
