Inquest into Chimamanda Adichie's Son's Death Suspended

The Igbosere Magistrate Court in Lagos suspended the inquest into the death of Kanu Eseg, the 21-month-old son of author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, on Tuesday. The suspension was directed by the Lagos State Attorney General, Lawal Pedro, who informed the court that the matter would be postponed until a meeting scheduled for May 12, 2026.

The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Mojisola Dada, expressed concern over the Attorney General's decision to halt proceedings without prior notification, emphasizing the principle of separation of powers. Counsel for the deceased's parents, Adeyinka Aderemi, stated that they had received a letter to fix the meeting on Tuesday, which was communicated late on Monday.

The inquest began on February 25, 2026, to investigate the circumstances surrounding Kanu's death, which occurred following medical procedures at Atlantic Paediatric Hospital and arrangements for transfer to John Hopkins Hospital.
