Chimamanda Adichie Alleges Cover-Up in Son's Death at Lagos Hospital

Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has made serious allegations against Euracar Multi Specialist Hospital in Lagos, claiming the facility attempted to obscure details surrounding the death of her infant son, Nkanu. In a letter dated April 16, 2026, addressed to the hospital's board leadership and later shared publicly on social media, Adichie stated she had decided to bring the matter into the open rather than remain silent about what she describes as institutional wrongdoing.

According to Adichie's account, her son died on January 7 following a brief illness. She alleges that medical negligence and improper administration of sedation contributed to the child's death.

Adichie named the hospital's medical director, Dr. Tosin Majekodunmi, and an anaesthetist, Dr.

Titu Ogundar, in her allegations. She claimed that Majekodunmi visited her home on January 8—the day after Nkanu's death—and acknowledged that standard care protocols had not been followed during the child's treatment.

The author further contends that the hospital has obstructed investigation into the circumstances of her son's death and hindered her attempts to obtain clear answers. She alleges the institution engaged in conduct designed to delay inquiries and that hospital officials initially acknowledged errors in the treatment provided before later shifting their position.

Adichie stated she is pursuing legal action against the facility. The allegations have been reported by major Nigerian news outlets.

The hospital has not yet issued a public response to the claims as of the time these reports were published. Euracar Multi Specialist Hospital is located in the Victoria Island area of Lagos.
