China Denies Supplying Iran with US Base Intel

On Monday, China rejected reports claiming that Chinese entities supplied Iran with satellite images of the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan before and after an Iranian missile strike on July 17, which resulted in the deaths of three American soldiers. The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed American officials, did not specify the Chinese entities involved nor did it imply direct responsibility from Beijing for the imagery transfer.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated, “We firmly oppose groundless suspicion and accusations without evidence.” The report emerged amid rising tensions between the US and China, coinciding with a planned visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the White House on September 24. US President Donald Trump downplayed the report, acknowledging mutual intelligence gathering between the two nations.

He previously warned China against selling weapons to Iran and noted sanctions imposed on three China-based satellite companies for aiding Iran's military operations.
