China Enhances Green Cooperation with Nigeria for Sustainability

On Wednesday, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, announced China's commitment to intensifying green cooperation with Nigeria, highlighting the importance of sustainable development and environmental protection. This initiative is part of China's broader strategy to implement clean energy projects across Africa, with a focus on Nigeria as a key partner.

China has already implemented hundreds of cooperative projects in Africa, including photovoltaic capacity exceeding 1.5 gigawatts. Ambassador Yu reaffirmed China's dedication to a green, low-carbon development path, aiming to contribute solutions to global climate governance.

He noted that 2026 marks the beginning of China's 15th five-year plan, which includes explicit goals for accelerating green transition and social development. The plan also emphasizes active participation in global climate governance, aligning with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement.

Yu highlighted China's achievements in pollution control and ecological conservation, including being the first developing country to implement systematic PM2.5 pollution control and establishing the world's largest national park system.
