U.S. Congressman Calls for Sanctions on Nigeria Over Christian Persecution

U.S. Congressman Riley Moore has called for sanctions against Nigeria and the repeal of blasphemy and Sharia laws as part of a broader strategy to combat violence against Christian communities in the country.

Moore's recommendations were outlined in a report presented at the White House following a month-long investigation. This report describes concrete steps to end the persecution of Christians in Nigeria and tackle extremist violence.

Moore, who led a bipartisan congressional delegation to Nigeria, witnessed firsthand the atrocities faced by Christians under the unstable Nigerian government. He emphasized the need for a bilateral U.S.-Nigeria security agreement to protect vulnerable Christian communities and proposed withholding certain U.S. funds until the Nigerian government takes demonstrable action to stop the violence.

Additionally, he called for visa restrictions against individuals and groups complicit in religious persecution and urged international collaboration to confront security challenges in Nigeria.
