US Lawmaker Raises Alarm Over Attacks on Nigerian Christians

US lawmaker Riley Moore has expressed alarm over the recent attacks on Christians in Nigeria, specifically citing a deadly assault in Adamawa State attributed to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Reports indicate that the attack, which occurred in February, resulted in the deaths of at least 27 Christians and the destruction of several homes.

ISWAP fighters reportedly issued an ultimatum via social media, demanding that Christians either convert to Islam or pay a jizyah tax, or face death. This declaration has sparked outrage among international observers, including Moore, who condemned the attack as a clear case of religious persecution.

The former US congressman lamented the ongoing violent threats faced by Christians in Nigeria, emphasizing that they are explicitly targeted due to their faith. The White House has indicated an increase in American support for the Nigerian government to defend Christians amid worsening security crises in Northern Nigeria, where insurgent groups like Boko Haram continue to launch attacks.
