CIDSAN Calls for Ethical Governance at Abuja Conference

The Chartered Institute of Development Studies and Administration of Nigeria (CIDSAN) held its National Conference in Abuja, where it addressed the ongoing challenges posed by non-adherence to ethical standards in governance. In a communiqué signed by CIDSAN president Dr.

Elijah Ogbuokiri and Prince Ihendu Okoro, the institute criticized the focus on producing strongmen rather than strong institutions, which complicates governance and leads to power struggles detrimental to citizens' wellbeing. The communiqué described the introduction of "Prebendalism" as a troubling factor contributing to state capture and economic inequality.

CIDSAN emphasized the need for a planned, monitored, and ethically managed development journey, advocating for the grooming of leaders who prioritize ethics in public institutions. The conference, themed "Innovation, Ethics and Governance: The Role of Development Studies and Administration Professionals," served as a platform for discussions on managing and sustaining development for Nigeria's economic advancement.
