Egbetokun Resigns as IGP, Tunji Disu Appointed Acting IGP

Kayode Egbetokun resigned from his position as Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Tuesday, citing pressing family considerations. President Bola Tinubu acknowledged Egbetokun's distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force and expressed profound appreciation for his dedication and commitment to strengthening internal security during his tenure, which began in June 2023 and was scheduled to conclude in June 2027.

Following Egbetokun's resignation, President Tinubu appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu as the Acting IGP, effective immediately. The President expressed confidence in Disu's operational experience and demonstrated leadership capabilities, which are expected to provide steady focus and direction for the Nigeria Police Force during this critical period.

The President also indicated that a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council would be convened shortly to formally consider Disu's appointment as substantive IGP, which will then be transmitted to the Senate for confirmation.
