Tinubu Urges New IGP Disu to Restore Police Confidence

On Wednesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially charged the newly appointed Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, with the responsibility of restoring public confidence in the Nigerian Police Force. During the decoration ceremony held in Abuja, Tinubu highlighted the importance of strengthening discipline within the force and enhancing inter-agency collaboration to tackle Nigeria's pressing security issues.

He praised Disu's proven track record and dedication, recalling their working relationship when Disu served as a governor in Lagos State. Tinubu urged the new police chief to lead firmly and fairly, ensuring that the protection of lives and property remains the highest priority.

He acknowledged the daunting challenges facing the police and expressed confidence in Disu's operational experience, which he believes will help improve security outcomes. The President also commended outgoing Inspector General Kayode Egbetokun for his leadership and service to the nation, noting the critical period Nigeria is currently navigating concerning banditry, terrorism, and other criminal threats.
