JNPSNC Demands N500 Fuel Price from Tinubu by September 30

Civil servants represented by the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) have issued a deadline to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, demanding action by September 30, 2026, to address economic hardships. They are calling for the Federal Government to reduce the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to N500 per litre, an immediate Wage Award for public servants, and a review of salaries and allowances.

The JNPSNC highlighted that the current petrol prices exceed N1,430 per litre in some areas, exacerbating the financial strain on workers facing increased costs for food, transportation, and healthcare. The council criticized the government's reliance on distributing food items as a solution to economic issues, arguing that such measures are insufficient and unsustainable.

They proposed the establishment of a fuel intervention fund to stabilize prices and ensure affordable fuel access for all Nigerians, suggesting that the government could rebrand this initiative if it prefers not to label it a subsidy.
