CJID Awards AI Governance Grants to Seven CSOs in Nigeria

The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) has awarded Artificial Intelligence (AI) advocacy grants to seven civil society organizations in Nigeria. The beneficiaries include TechHer, Cedar Foundation for Disability, Akin Fadeyi Foundation, Nest Africa AI Innovation Lab, Webfala Digital Skill for All Initiative, African Centre for Media and Information Literacy, and Dataphyte Foundation.

These grants are part of the Nigeria AI Collective initiative, which aims to foster an inclusive, citizen-centered, and accountable AI ecosystem. The selected organizations will implement advocacy projects tailored to their expertise and target communities within Nigeria's AI landscape over the coming weeks.

This initiative represents the next phase of the AI Collective Community of Practice, a multi-stakeholder platform with over 600 members from civil society, media, academia, technology, and student communities, focused on promoting AI literacy, collaboration, innovation, and responsible governance. The current grants build on a previous phase where civil society organizations collaborated on shared AI priorities.
