Cleric Denies Coup Plot Involvement Amid Court Trial

Sheikh Bukar Kashim Goni, an Islamic cleric, has denied any involvement in an alleged plot to overthrow President Tinubu, claiming that the multi-million naira transfers to his account were strictly for prayer and charitable purposes. Goni is currently facing trial in the Federal High Court Abuja, alongside retired Major General Moham Ibrahim Gana, retired Naval Captain Erasmus Ochegobia Victor, Inspector Ahm Ibrahim, and others, in connection with a botched coup plot.

The trial is presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik. Investigations revealed financial records showing transfers starting in March 2023, including a significant transfer of 10 million naira made in October 2024.

Goni maintains that he has no knowledge of any illegal plans and insists he is neither involved in politics nor military activities. The case has drawn attention due to its implications regarding security and potential military involvement in political matters.
