Cleric Testifies on Alleged Coup Plot in Abuja Court

Sheikh Sani Abdulkadir appeared in the Federal High Court in Abuja to testify about an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu. He revealed that he was approached by intermediaries, including an individual named Sanda, who informed him of plans to stage a coup led by Colonel Moham Maaji.

Abdulkadir stated that he was asked to pray for the success of the operation and warned that the coup would fail, leading to exposure. He admitted to receiving money for prayers but insisted it was strictly for spiritual purposes and not related to the coup attempt.

Abdulkadir claimed he first learned of the coup plot through media reports and was later arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He denied any coercion in his statements to the EFCC and maintained that his statements were made voluntarily.

The court proceedings included disputes over the admissibility of statements made by the defendants, with the next hearing scheduled for May 12.
