Women Environmental Programme Trains 100 Farmers in Nasarawa

The Women Environmental Programme (WEP) trained 100 women farmers in the Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on climate education and sustainable farming practices. The training, held on Wednesday, was part of the project titled “Strengthening Climate Resilience and Sustainable Livelihood for Rural Women,” funded by Irish Aid and supported by the Government of Ireland.
Damaris Uja, the Programme Lead for WEP, stated that the training aimed to help women understand climate change and adopt practices to mitigate its effects. Uja emphasized the importance of accessing weather information, as many women farmers face challenges due to irregular rainfall patterns.
The selection of participants was based on data collected during community engagements in five communities, ensuring inclusivity for women with disabilities. Angbashi Ishaku, a retired Director of Climate Change, presented on the importance of adhering to the climate seasonal calendar.
The project is designed to impact over 1,000 households indirectly.
