Army Chief Waidi Shaibu Donates N25m for Veterans' Health

On September 17, 2026, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), pledged N25 million to the Emergency Health Fund of the Course 39 Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) United Welfare Association (UWA). This commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the association’s Executive Committee, led by President Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola (Rtd), to the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

Gen Shaibu emphasized the Nigerian Army's dedication to the welfare of both serving and retired personnel, stating that caring for veterans is an enduring responsibility. He noted that engagement with veterans is crucial for institutional development and operational effectiveness.

The COAS also discussed ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing the Army's capabilities, including the expansion to 12 divisions and the integration of 28,000 recruits. He highlighted the importance of a revised training curriculum and the transition towards multi-domain operations to address emerging security challenges.
