Nigerian Legion Leaders Address Veterans' Welfare Initiatives

The Nigerian Legion, under the leadership of National Chairman Ms Grace Mornike, held a meeting to address critical issues affecting veterans, including welfare, empowerment, and support for military widows. Mornike emphasized the need for unity and coordination among state councils and the Corps of Commissioners.

Retired Major General Garba Abdullahi, representing the Minister of Defence, announced the formation of a high-powered committee to review the Legion's operations and recommend reforms to enhance veterans' welfare. This committee has conducted nationwide consultations and is finalizing its report.

Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede, represented by Major General Jarnal Abdulsalam, reaffirmed that welfare is a key focus, highlighting a recent salary increase for military personnel that will also benefit retirees. Plans for low-interest loans and veterans' help desks were discussed, alongside initiatives for skill acquisition and dedicated medical services.

The Nigerian Air Force, represented by Air Commodore Stephen Nwachi, announced the establishment of Veterans’ Wellbeing Centres and an online registration portal for retired personnel.
