COAS Waidi Shaibu Advocates PPP for Army Healthcare Modernization

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Nigerian Army, has expressed support for public-private partnerships (PPP) as a means to modernize healthcare facilities managed by the Army. This announcement was made during a meeting with a high-level delegation led by former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (rtd), at the Army Headquarters.

The discussions aimed at exploring strategic collaborations to improve healthcare delivery and infrastructure within the Nigerian Army. Colonel Apollonia Anele, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, indicated that the delegation included key partners from the private sector and the international diplomatic community.

Potential collaboration areas include upgrading hospitals, providing modern medical equipment, and deploying digital health solutions. Lieutenant General Shaibu emphasized that the health and wellbeing of Army personnel and their families are central to his ‘Soldier First’ concept, which is vital for operational effectiveness.

He welcomed partnerships that could offer investment and innovative healthcare solutions to support Army personnel.
