Rivers State Election Conducted Peacefully, Governor and Lawmakers Set to Return

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State announced the successful conduct of local government elections, paving the way for the return of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and state lawmakers on September 18. Despite a low turnout, the election was described as peaceful by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RISEC).

The Administrator of Rivers State and the retired Vice Admiral Ibas commended the orderly conduct of the election as a positive step towards restoring full democratic governance at the grassroots level. However, Fubara loyalists boycotted the election, and the suspended Speaker of the state House Assembly, Hon Martin Amaewhule, praised the transparency of the electoral process.

The final results were set to be announced after collation by RSIEC.
