Low Turnout in Rivers State Election as Governor Skips Voting

Little to no voting was recorded in the polling unit of Governor Siminalayi Fubara's ward in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State during the local government election. Governor Fubara's absence at the polling unit led to a largely deserted voting environment, with residents attributing the inactivity to his non-appearance.

The election was overseen by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) official, Sole Administrator Ibokette Ibas, due to the Governor's failure to show up. This comes after the Supreme Court annulled the October 2024 council poll in the state, leading to political tensions and Governor Fubara's subsequent suspension from office.
