Ogazi, Udo Advance to Men's 400m Final at Glasgow 2026

At the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Team Nigeria's Samuel Ogazi and Edidiong Udo have successfully qualified for the men's 400 metres final. Ogazi showcased an impressive performance, dominating the first semifinal with a time of 44.52 seconds, finishing ahead of Lee Eppie from Botswana, who clocked 45.26 seconds, and Jamaica’s Zandriom Barnes, who finished in 45.38 seconds.

Udo, running from lane eight, also delivered a strong performance, initially finishing third in his semifinal with a time of 45.53 seconds. However, he was promoted to second place following the disqualification of Antonio Watson from Jamaica.

In contrast, in the women's 400m semifinal, Nigerian athletes Patience Okon-George and Esther Joseph finished fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 53.21 seconds and 53.26 seconds, thus missing the opportunity to compete for a medal.
