Tobi Amusan Wins Bronze at Commonwealth Games Despite Injury

Tobi Amusan, Nigeria’s sprint hurdles sensation and world record holder, won a bronze medal in the women's 100 metres hurdles at the 23rd Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. The 29-year-old athlete finished the race in 12.60 seconds on Thursday, overcoming a knee injury sustained during Team Nigeria’s pre-Games training camp in Aberdeen.

Although she missed out on a third consecutive Commonwealth title, her performance was celebrated for its resilience and commitment. Amusan revealed that her preparations were disrupted by a fall during training, which raised concerns about her ability to compete effectively.

Despite the injury and the chilly weather conditions in Glasgow, she chose to compete, stating, “I had a pretty bad fall at training camp.” Her determination led her to the podium, where she expressed gratitude for her achievement. Amusan also mentioned her struggle with anemia, which required her to take extra precautions to stay warm before the race.
