Lai Mohammed Highlights Communication's Role in Governance

Lai Mohammed, the former Minister of Information and Culture, stated that communication is the most strategic tool of governance during a book signing event in Lagos on Thursday. He explained that effective communication is essential for implementing decisions and convincing the public of government initiatives.

Mohammed noted that during his nearly eight-year tenure, he leveraged communication to project achievements of the APC-led federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari. He discussed various communication strategies, including town hall meetings and media tours, to engage stakeholders and counter misinformation ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Mohammed also addressed the challenges posed by social media platforms, particularly Twitter, in relation to national security and misinformation, referencing the #EndSARS protests and the false narratives surrounding the Lekki toll gate incident. He urged those in government to document their experiences and advocate for African narratives to combat distortions.
