COMPPART Foundation Calls for Action on Power Vandalism

COMPPART Foundation for Justice and Peacebuilding, a civil society organization, has called on the Akwa Ibom State Government, led by Governor Pastor Umo Eno, to urgently address the rampant vandalism of electricity infrastructure across the state. In a letter signed by Executive Director Saviour Akpan, the organization highlighted the severe impact of vandalism on local communities, which have been left without electricity for extended periods.

The letter detailed instances of vandalized electric poles, cables, and wires, as well as unconnected or broken transformers. The foundation emphasized that the lack of electricity contributes to economic hardship, insecurity, and poor service delivery.

COMPPART urged the governor to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the situation, restore vandalized infrastructure, connect dormant transformers, and repair faulty ones across the state's 31 Local Government Areas. Additionally, the organization recommended community involvement and collaboration with security agencies to protect electricity infrastructure.
