Abia State Government Addresses Vandalism and Flooding Issues

The Abia State Government has expressed serious concerns regarding the vandalism of government projects, particularly power assets, which is disrupting electricity supply and imposing additional financial burdens on the state. During a press briefing on Tuesday following an Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, highlighted the negative impact of these acts and called on community leaders, including President-Generals of town unions and traditional rulers, to devise strategies to combat this issue.
He also addressed flooding in various communities, noting that efforts to clear drainage channels were ongoing. Kanu mentioned that the Abia Integrated Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Programme is currently rehabilitating five water schemes at different stages of completion.
Engr. Ikechukwu Monday, the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, attributed the increasing flooding incidents to climate change and stated that various government agencies are working collaboratively to address these challenges. Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, indicated that the State Emergency Management Agency is responsible for providing relief materials to disaster victims.
