National Assembly Panel Backs New State for South-East in Constitution Review

The National Assembly joint committee on constitution review has approved the creation of an additional state in the South-East geopolitical zone. The decision was made during a retreat in Lagos where lawmakers reviewed 55 separate proposals for state creation across the country.

Prominent figures like Barau Jibrin and Kalu strongly support the move, arguing that it will give the South-East a sense of belonging. The committee also resolved to set up sub-committees to consider requests for additional states in local government areas across the six geopolitical zones.
