National Assembly Forms Committee to Review Creation of New States Across Nigeria

The National Assembly has established a committee to review the creation of new states and local government areas across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. The move follows the submission of 278 proposals for consideration, reflecting widespread demands for increased representation and administrative autonomy.

During a plenary session, Senators Abdul Ningi and Ibrahim Isiaka tabled motions advocating for the creation of new states, which received unanimous support. The committee, led by co-chairs Barau Jibrin and Benjamin Okezi Kalu, will evaluate the viability of the proposals, taking into account demographic, economic, and administrative factors nationwide.
