APC Plans Consensus Election for National Leaders in 2026

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced its intention to elect national leaders through a consensus approach during its convention set for March 27-28, 2026, in Abuja. Mari Ikoku, the party's assistant secretary for media and publicity, disclosed this plan in an interview.

She noted that the decision to adopt a consensus method for electing positions will depend on local political dynamics. Ikoku highlighted the importance of political parties being proactive in preparing for elections rather than waiting until the election season.

She also addressed the provisions of the Electoral Act, which require political parties to register members online within a specified timeframe. The APC has begun screening aspirants for key positions, including the national chairman, Nentaw Yilwatda, and other national officers such as Hope Ajibola, Basiru NWC, Dayo Israel, Ali Bukar Dalori, Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana, Mari Alil Idel, and Felix Morka.
