APC Considers Consensus for NWC Positions Ahead of 2026

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is considering a consensus arrangement for electing new members to its National Working Committee (NWC) ahead of its national convention scheduled for March 2026. Professor Abimbola Tooki, the party's national chairman, disclosed this information, emphasizing that the party traditionally prefers consensus over open contests.

The current NWC, inaugurated in March 2022, will see its tenure expire next month, and while the constitution allows for re-election, the political atmosphere may not favor this. Key governors are maneuvering to consolidate their influence ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various state leaders, including those from Delta, Edo, Kogi, and Akwa Ibom, seeking to secure strategic footholds within the party.

The outcome of the convention is expected to significantly impact the party's internal cohesion and the selection of candidates for upcoming elections.
