Nigeria Cooking Gas Prices Surge: New Data Reveals State Disparities

The latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics reveals a notable spike in cooking gas prices in Nigeria, affecting household expenses. The average cost of refilling a 5kg cylinder rose from 6,395.82 naira in September to 8,081.75 naira in October, representing a 26.36% increase year-on-year.

Borno and Yobe emerged as the states with the highest average prices for both 5kg and 12.5kg cylinders, while Bauchi and Ebonyi recorded the lowest prices. The North West region had the highest average prices, while the South-South region had the lowest.

This price surge follows a similar trend seen in September, indicating ongoing challenges for consumers.
