Nigerian Cooking Gas Prices Remain High Despite Marketers' Assurances

Despite assurances from marketers, cooking gas prices in Nigeria remain high, with costs ranging from 1,200 to 1,400 naira per kilogram in major cities like Lagos. The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM) attributes the high prices to supply backlog, refinery maintenance, and logistics constraints.

Ongoing investments in gas infrastructure by Seplat Energy and Dangote Refinery are expected to address supply bottlenecks and reduce prices nationwide. At the association's 38th Annual General Meeting, it was noted that LPG consumption is on the rise, reaching 900,000 metric tons in 2021 and projected to hit 2 million metric tons by 2025, driven by private sector investments and government collaboration.
