Cooking Gas and Petrol Prices Decline Nationwide in December 2025

The Nation Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released a report indicating a decline in cooking gas and petrol prices across Nigeria in December 2025. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) prices notably decreased compared to the previous year.

The average price for a 5kg cylinder of LPG fell by 1.20% month-on-month to ₦5,360.43 in December 2025, marking a significant 25.31% decrease from December 2024. Kaduna had the highest average price for a 5kg cylinder refill at ₦5,838.66, while Katsina recorded the lowest at ₦4,855.80.

Similarly, the average retail price for a 12.5kg cylinder of LPG dropped by 0.74% month-on-month to ₦13,438.90 in December 2025, showing a 22.20% decrease from December 2024. The average price of petrol also decreased, with the North East region being the most expensive zone and the South West recording the lowest average price.
