Despite the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reporting a drop in the average cost of refilling a 5kg cooking gas cylinder, prices have surged to ₦3,500 per kg in Lagos and Ogun states. The sharp increase in retail prices has forced many households to seek alternatives due to the high cost.

This surge is attributed to a temporary disruption caused by the strike of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, affecting the supply chain. Consumers are facing challenges in accessing affordable cooking gas, with some resorting to charcoal or electric options.
