COSEYL Condemns Alleged Arrest of Kaduna Cleric Umar

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) issued a strong condemnation regarding the alleged arrest of Kaduna-based Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Umar. In a press release dated Tuesday, COSEYL's president, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, characterized the arrest as an attack on democratic principles and civil liberties.

The group expressed outrage, noting that the arrest reportedly followed the hosting of prominent political figures in the area. COSEYL described the development as disturbing and unacceptable, warning that such actions undermine the rule of law and constitutional freedoms.

They emphasized that no citizen should be subjected to harassment or arrest for exercising their constitutional rights, regardless of political affiliations. The organization perceives the incident as a targeted intimidation tactic that could create fear among citizens and weaken democratic values.

COSEYL called for the immediate and unconditional release of Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Umar and urged relevant authorities to provide a clear and transparent explanation regarding the circumstances of the alleged arrest, while also appealing to civil society organizations and pro-democracy groups to speak against such actions.
