Council of State Approves Prof Joash Amupitan as New INEC Chairman

The Council of State has approved the nomination of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan SAN as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). President Bola Tinubu presented Amupitan as the nominee to fill the vacant position left by Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

Amupitan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, is the first person from Kogi State to be nominated for this role. The nomination was unanimously supported by Council members, with Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo praising Amupitan's integrity and compliance with the constitution.

Amupitan, born on April 25, 1967, is a legal expert specializing in Company Law, Evidence Law, Corporate Governance, and Privatization Law. President Tinubu will forward Amupitan's name for Senate screening.
