U.S. Military Trainers Arrive in Nigeria for Counter-Terrorism

On Monday, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced the arrival of 100 U.S. military personnel trainers in Nigeria to support the training and capacity development of the Nigerian Armed Forces (AFN). Maj Gen Samaila Uba, the Director of Defence Information, disclosed this information in a statement in Abuja.

The U.S. personnel, associated with equipment, arrived at Bauchi Airfield as part of a structured bilateral defense engagement following a formal request from the Nigerian government. The military training and technical support, along with intelligence sharing, aim to assist in counter-terrorism efforts.

Uba emphasized that the U.S. personnel will serve strictly in an advisory capacity and will not be part of combat forces, with all activities conducted under the direct control of the Nigerian government. The cooperation is intended to enhance Nigeria's ability to deter terrorist threats and strengthen the protection of vulnerable communities.

Uba reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces to degrade and defeat terrorist organizations threatening the country's sovereignty and national security.
