Families Protest for Detained Military Officers in Abuja

On Wednesday, families of detained military officers staged a peaceful protest at the National Assembly in Abuja, demanding the speedy trial and release of their loved ones, who are accused of plotting a coup. The protest was marked by emotional pleas from children and spouses of the detained officers, with placards stating "Don't kill daddy" and "Injustice." Among the protesters were Halima Moham, daughter of Lt.

Col. Moham Almakura, and Ibrahim Bala, son of Major Bala, who called for justice and transparency in the process.

The protest involved around 20 wives and children, including a two-month-old baby, and was supported by human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju and activist Omoyele Sowore. The officers were detained following an announcement on October 4, 2025, by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, who disclosed that 16 officers were taken into custody for alleged breaches of military regulations and involvement in a clandestine coup plot targeting senior government officials, including President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
