Families of Detained Officers Protest for Justice

On Wednesday, families of detained military officers protested at the National Assembly, demanding a speedy trial and the release of their loved ones accused of an alleged coup plot. The protest featured visibly distraught children clutching placards with messages like "don't kill daddy" and "injustice." Among the protesters were Halima Moham, daughter of Lt.

Col. Moham Almakura, and Ibrahim Bala, son of Major Bala, who expressed their longing for their fathers, last seen months ago.

The families criticized the prolonged detention of the officers, who have been held for over 160 days without trial, and called for access to legal representation. They appealed directly to President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for intervention.

The officers were arrested following an announcement on October 4, 2025, by Brig Gen Tukur Gusau, citing breaches of military regulations and an alleged clandestine coup plot. The families emphasized the emotional toll of the situation, urging the government to ensure justice and transparency in the proceedings.
