Nigerian Military Detains 35 Officers Over Alleged Coup Plot Against President Tinubu

The Nigerian military has detained at least 35 military officers, primarily from the northern part of the country, for their alleged involvement in a coup plot against the government led by President Bola Tinubu. Among those detained are 33 officers from the northern region, including a brigadier general, two colonels, five lieutenant colonels, and other high-ranking officials from the Nigerian Air Force and Navy.

The detainees also include lower-ranking officers and non-commissioned officers. The military is conducting investigations, and the detained officers are expected to face disciplinary actions.

The alleged coup plot involves officers from various branches of the military, with specific individuals like Yusuf from Osun State and Zuzu from Bayelsa State being named. The military has not independently verified these claims, and efforts to seek clarification from the Director of Defence Information, Maj Gen Samaila Uba, have been unsuccessful.
