Bauchi Finance Commissioner's Trial Adjourned Indefinitely

The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the trial of Yakubu Adamu, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Finance, indefinitely in a case concerning alleged terrorism financing. Justice Moham Umar ordered the adjournment after the prosecution, led by M.O.

Adebayo, expressed discomfort with handling the case and requested its transfer to the Chief Judge, who has yet to respond. Defense counsel Chris Uch, SAN, expressed shock at the developments, arguing that the prosecution's failure to notify the defense of the situation was unfair and a violation of rights.

The defense also requested the release of Adamu's passport to enable him to travel for Hajj preparations. Justice Umar noted that the issue was administrative rather than judicial and adjourned the matter sine die pending the Chief Judge's decision.

Adamu faces ten counts related to terrorism financing and money laundering, with the case initially filed in January 2024. He was arraigned on December 31, 2025, and granted bail in January 2026.
