Court Adjourns El-Rufai's N1bn Rights Suit to March 31

The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the fundamental rights suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai until March 31. This marks the third adjournment of the case, which challenges the legality of a search conducted at El-Rufai's residence.

His lawyer is seeking N1 billion in damages against the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and other respondents, including the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation. The suit claims that the search warrant issued on February 4 was invalid and violated El-Rufai's rights to dignity, liberty, fair hearing, and privacy.

The court was informed that the ICPC had not properly served the necessary documents, leading to the adjournment. El-Rufai was previously detained by the ICPC on February 19 and was arraigned in a Kaduna court on separate criminal charges.

The case will be heard again on March 31, where the court will address the application for substituted service.
